Gabe Coggiola, Esq.

Attorney

Gabe Coggiola Marc Brown Law Firm

Gabe’s practice focuses on workers’ compensation and personal injury law.  In addition to advocating for his clients, Gabe is also a certified workers compensation and circuit court mediator.

Gabe grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, where he has lived the majority of his life, building strong ties to the local community. Growing up, Gabe developed a passion for the law, watching his mother work tirelessly to represent her clients as the first ever female Chief Public Defender in Richland County.

Gabe attended the University of the South – Sewanee, before coming back to Columbia and earning his Bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of South Carolina. After college, Gabe attended the University School of Law, where he was a member of the legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi. Gabe earned his J.D. and was admitted to practice in South Carolina in 2005.

After law school, Gabe had the privilege of serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Matthew J. Perry, Jr., Senior United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina. Judge Perry was a pioneer civil rights attorney and the first African American to serve as a United States District Court judge in South Carolina. In addition to the valuable experience he obtained watching both civil and criminal trials from the bench, Gabe learned even more important lessons from Judge Perry about the values of vigorous representation of clients and civility in dealing with opposing counsel.

Following his clerkship, Gabe spent the next 15 years at a large regional defense firm, representing employers and insurance companies in workers’ compensation claims.  Gabe argued hundreds of cases before the Workers’ Compensation Commission and handled a large portion of the firm’s appellate practice, arguing numerous cases before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and South Carolina Supreme Court. In addition, Gabe worked in the Office of Disciplinary Counsel for the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.

After 15 years of insight into how employers and insurance companies handle workers compensation claims, Gabe decided to pursue his new path of representing individuals who were injured on the job and joined the Marc Brown Law Firm to manage the firm’s expanding workers compensation practice.

Outside of work, Gabe is happiest spending time with his wife, Lauren, and his two daughters. Gabe loves watching live music and enjoying outdoor sports, including hiking, surfing, and snowboarding. Gabe’s involvement in the community includes serving as a board member for the Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Foundation Board and putting together events to raise money for Families Helping Families. Gabe and his family attend Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and are very involved with his daughters’ school, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School.
